Whats On Saturday 15th and Sunday 16th November
Drew Hulton-Smith, Thursday, 13 November 2008WHAT'S ON SATURDAY 15TH AND SUNDAY 16TH NOVEMBER 2008
All groups and all levels are training this Saturday from 9am to 12pm. Please do not be late, it causes disruption to the rest of the group and slows everyone down. Nobody will be allowed to join the group if they arrive any later than 9.15am.
Friends of Sailing have a Committee Meeting at 10.00am. Any interested parents are welcome to join the meeting
I am trying to develop a new practice - that no boats are allowed to stop on any paved areas. This includes the main driveway through the compound, the hardstand area outside the gates, and the boatramp. Every boat has an allocated place in the yard or the shed. Take your boat from its park straight out to the River Ovals to the north of the boatramp where there is endless space to rig up. Don't block the access between the hardstand and the grass. After you launch, trailers need to be stacked up by their boat type (Pico trailers together, Pacer trailers together, etc) off to one side, near the Mr Percival trimaran. When you return, take your boat immediately to its parking place or back onto the River Ovals to de-rig and lower Pico Masts. Things are getting busier and we need to have a system or everything grinds to a halt
After coming off the water at 12:00 all the Picos must be stowed on their racks, any Pacers and Optimists racing on Sunday have to be de-rigged and prepared for towing.
Friends of Sailing will be providing the BBQ lunch at 12.30
At 1.00pm sharp there will be a briefing for everyone intending to race in the Southport Yacht Club 'Cock o'the Broadwater' race on Sunday. All Entry Forms must be completed at this session, click the link below, download your form and complete it right now!
At 1.30pm we will get all the racing Pacers and Optis in the water and tow them to SYC Hollywell using the Duck and the Howie B. We only need one person in each boat being towed. When we arrive we will rig and test all the boats and leave them there overnight.
DREW WILL NOT BE THERE ON SUNDAY! Sam Sewell, Rob Waugh and Matt Wales may be able to assist you if you get stuck but they also have their own boats to work on as well. This is where you need to develop your independence and self reliance. The Sailing Squadron is a friendly place and people are always approachable and willing to help. Be friendly and ask for help if you need it.
On Sunday everyone needs to get to SYC Hollywell Sailing Squadron by 11.00am. Address is 1 Marina Crescent, Hollywell. Everyone must do the following:
Take some cash if you want to buy things at the canteen. You should eat before you arrive, you don't want to be eating an hour before you sail. The boats are the first priority so get them sorted out first. Make sure you have water in your boat. The race could take up to two hours and in this climate you should each drink a litre of water during that time.
You must have their correct TSS Sailing Uniform as TSSSC is sponsoring your entry to this event.
You must have a hat and PFD and make sure you have a bailer and it is tied in.
You must go to the sailing office and sign-on to the correct form.
You must check the Official Notice Board to see if there is any new information.
You must check, double check, triple check your own boat, it is your responsibility and nobody elses.
You must go to the Race Briefing at 12.00pm and make sure you fully understand the course, the start and your Class Flags. Ask questions if you are unsure.
You should go afloat at least 30 minutes before the start, even longer if the start is in 'The Deep Hole' away from the Clubhouse. Check everything, make adjustments if necessary. Get together and tune up boat-on-boat both upwind and downwind. Get the course figured out early. Work out what the tide is doing and make a plan.
You must represent TSSSC with pride and professionalism. Your behaviour is on public display. Make sure all TSS Trolleys are stacked in one pile, not spread across the whole beach. Cooperate with each other and offer to help anyone who needs it.
You must de-rig the Pacers. We are leaving the boats there so someone needs to check with the Office for where to leave them. Make sure the Pacer sails are rolled properly and covers are fitted tightly. Lay the masts across the boats and make sure that all screw pins are tight. Lay all the Opti rigs on top of the Optimists neatly.
You should be all finished and packed up by 4pm. Good luck and good sailing!
